Crochet Leaf Garland – Simple Botanical Home Decor

Crochet Leaf Garland – Simple Botanical Home Decor

This botanical garland uses small leaves worked around a chain spine. Make leaves in several shades of green, then attach them to a longer chain for a soft handmade decoration.

Materials

Small amounts of DK cotton yarn in 2–3 greens, 3 mm hook, yarn needle and scissors.

Abbreviations

ch = chain; sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Leaf: Ch 9. Starting in second chain from hook, work sl st in first chain, sc in next, hdc in next 2, dc in next 2, hdc in next, sc in next, 3 sc in final chain.

Step 2. Turn and work along the opposite side of the foundation chain: sc, hdc, dc in next 2, hdc, sc, sl st. Join at the base with sl st and fasten off, leaving a tail.

Step 3. Make 10–15 leaves in different green shades. For a pointed shape, keep the final stitches snug; for a rounder leaf, relax the tension slightly.

Step 4. Garland: Ch 25, attach a leaf with sl st through its base, ch 8–12 between leaves, and repeat. Finish with ch 25 at the other end.

Finishing

Lay the garland flat and arrange the leaves so they face alternating directions. Secure the ends with small loops for hanging.

Helpful tip

Use a thin cotton yarn so the leaves remain light. Keep the chain spaces consistent for an even drape.
