Easy Crochet Bookmark – Quick Beginner Pattern

Easy Crochet Bookmark – Quick Beginner Pattern

Make a simple crochet bookmark with a slim textured strip and a small tassel. This quick project is ideal for using leftover cotton yarn and makes a thoughtful handmade gift.

Materials: DK cotton yarn, 3 mm hook, yarn needle, scissors and a small piece of card for the tassel.

Abbreviations: ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch.

Foundation: Ch 9. Row 1: hdc in third chain from hook and in each chain across (7 sts). Ch 2, turn.

Rows 2–28: hdc in each stitch across (7 sts). Ch 2, turn. Continue until the strip measures about 18–20 cm or your preferred length.

Edge: Work sc evenly around the bookmark, placing 3 sc in each corner so the edges lie flat. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Tassel: Wrap yarn around a small piece of card 12–15 times. Tie one end, cut the opposite loops and wrap a second strand around the tassel neck. Attach securely to one short end of the bookmark.

Finishing: Weave in all ends and trim the tassel evenly. Lightly block the bookmark so it lies flat.

Tip: Use cotton yarn and a firm tension so the bookmark stays slim and does not stretch between the pages.
