Easy Crochet Phone Pouch – Simple Drawstring Bag

Easy Crochet Phone Pouch – Simple Drawstring Bag

This pouch is made from a rectangle folded into a pocket, with a drawstring threaded through the top edge. Measure your own phone before starting because device sizes and cases vary.

Materials

Cotton DK yarn, 3.5 mm hook, yarn needle, scissors and a small length of cord or crocheted chain for the drawstring.

Abbreviations

ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; sl st = slip stitch.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Measure your phone including its case. Make a chain about 2 cm wider than the phone. For a typical phone, ch 23. Row 1: hdc in third chain from hook and across.

Step 2. Work hdc rows until the piece is twice the phone height plus 3 cm. Keep the edges straight by working the same stitch count in every row.

Step 3. Fold the rectangle with right sides facing in. Seam both sides using sl st or mattress stitch, leaving the top open. Turn right side out.

Step 4. Drawstring channel: Work one round of sc around the top. Work a second round of *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, sc in next stitch* to create eyelets. Work one final round of sc, placing stitches into each chain space.

Step 5. Make a chain cord long enough to wrap around the pouch opening. Thread it through the eyelets and knot the ends.

Finishing

Check that the pouch slides on and off the phone without stretching. Add a small loop or strap only if it is securely attached.

Helpful tip

Use a firm cotton yarn and test the width before seaming. A pouch that is slightly snug will hold its shape better.
