Crochet angel doll handmade Christmas decoration

This lightweight angel is designed to hang on a Christmas tree, decorate a gift or become part of a seasonal garland. The dress is worked from the top down, with a small head and flat wings added afterwards. Finished height is around 9 cm.

Materials

  • DK cotton yarn in cream or white
  • a little skin-tone yarn
  • 3 mm hook
  • yarn needle
  • small amount of stuffing and ribbon or thread for the hanging loop.

Abbreviations

MR = magic ring; ch = chain; sc = single crochet; hdc = half double crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch; inc = 2 sc in one stitch.

Pattern instructions

Step 1. Head: With skin-tone yarn, make 6 sc in MR. R2 inc around (12). R3 sc around (12). R4 [sc, dec] around (8). Add a tiny amount of stuffing. Fasten off, leaving a sewing tail.

Step 2. Dress: With white yarn, ch 18 and join carefully without twisting. Work 1 round of sc (18). Next round: [2 sc, inc] around (24). Work 4 rounds of sc. For a flared hem, work [2 hdc in next stitch, 1 hdc] around, then sl st to join.

Step 3. Wings (make 2): Ch 6. Starting in second chain, work sl st, sc, hdc, dc, 5 dc in last chain. Turn and work along the opposite side: dc, hdc, sc, sl st. Fasten off with a tail.

Step 4. Sew the head to the top of the dress and attach the wings symmetrically to the back. Embroider eyes and a tiny smile if desired.

Finishing

Add a hanging loop at the top of the head. Keep all embellishments securely attached, especially if the ornament may be handled by children.

Helpful tip

Use lightweight cotton so the ornament hangs neatly. A small gold thread halo can be added with a few simple stitches.
